Marketa Irglova's spontaneous Oscar speech

It could've gone down as one of the harshest moments in Oscar history. The orchestra swelled just as petite Best Original Song co-winner Marketa Irglova stepped up to the microphone to speak last night following partner Glen Hansard. The pair won for their tune "Falling Slowly" from the indie musical "Once", but only Hansard gave an acceptance before their moment in the spotlight seemed to be over.

India being chucked out of Oscars race yet again doesn't surprise this talented filmmaker at all. In a freewheeling conversation with NDTVMovies.com, Sudhir Mishra lashes out at our racist film selection system and an arrogant Bollywood, which he believes doesn't even qualify as a film industry! In these times of film illiteracy Mishra feels one would have to look elsewhere for films and thus Oscars remain relevant.

One of the biggest controversies to hit the Oscars was when Marlon Brando rejected the award for

and sent a native American woman, Sacheen Littlefeather in his place, to read a speech that blasted Hollywood for its treatment of Native Americans in the film. As the lady delivered the speech, the hall erupted and resounded with the sound of boos coming from the audience.
